Write a Letter of Support to Armenian Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan
A large group of Armenian detainees held in Azerbaijan – including former political leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh as well as prisoners of war – have recently been sentenced to very long prison terms, including life sentences. Other Armenians have already been held in Azerbaijani detention for years.
Far from their families and communities, the prisoners now face an uncertain future. At a time when they are being held in isolation, letters of support can serve as an important reminder that they are not alone.
Sending a physical letter is a simple but meaningful act of solidarity that helps ensure these prisoners know they have not been forgotten.
To ensure that your letter is properly formatted and accepted by the detention facility, please follow these steps:
1. Write your letter.
2. Attach a completed form as the first page of your letter.
This form is mandatory, and letters without it may not be accepted by the administration of the detention facility for delivery. The form must be filled out in English and can be completed either by hand or electronically.
3. Ensure the envelope is properly addressed.
• As the recipient, please indicate the full name of the prisoner you have chosen. It is important that the name is written correctly and in full on the envelope.

4. Use your country’s postal service to mail the letter and ensure you pay any applicable postage fees.
5. Please note: if you live in Armenia, the Armenian postal service currently does not send letters to Azerbaijan. If you are based in Armenia and would like to send a letter, the only option is to ask friends, relatives, or acquaintances living in other countries to send the letter on your behalf.
Additionally, due to recent developments in the region, including events in Iran, some postal services may have restrictions on sending mail to Azerbaijan. We kindly ask you to check with your local postal service in advance to ensure that delivery is possible.
6. For tracking purposes, we kindly ask you to let us know once you have sent your letter by emailing us at contact@freearmenianprisoners.com.
We kindly ask that you avoid sending greeting cards or photographs, as they may not be delivered due to possible censorship restrictions.
The mandatory cover form required for sending letters is attached below this article.
Sending a letter may seem like a small act, but it can carry a powerful message – that these prisoners are remembered and supported by people around the world.
