Legal Expert Anna Melikyan Raises Concerns Over Armenian Prisoners and Human Rights at OSCE Warsaw Conference
At the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference, organized by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Anna Melikyan, Legal Expert at Protection of Rights Without Borders (PRWB), addressed the human rights consequences of the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict and what she described as attempts to discredit and silence human rights advocacy.
In her remarks, Melikyan spoke about Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, accountability for alleged war crimes, the rights of displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, missing persons, and the protection of Armenian cultural and religious heritage. She also raised concerns about the withdrawal of conflict-related interstate cases from international courts and the implications this could have for victims seeking accountability.
PRWB called for the release of Armenians detained in connection with the armed conflict, independent investigations into alleged war crimes, compliance with the orders of the International Court of Justice, international monitoring of cultural heritage sites, and meaningful human rights guarantees as part of any lasting settlement.
