Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan: Continued Detention of Armenian Prisoners Does Not Contribute to Peace

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has stated that Armenia continues its efforts to secure the release of all Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, while acknowledging that the outcome does not depend solely on the Armenian side.

Speaking to journalists in response to a question about Armenian prisoners, Mirzoyan emphasized that their continued detention does not contribute to peace.

“The continued detention of people in no way contributes to peace, if anything, quite the opposite,” he said.

“Our efforts to secure the release of all prisoners have never stopped. Why can’t I say with certainty and confidence that this will happen? Because it does not depend on us,” Mirzoyan stated.

Asked by Radio Azatutyun whether Armenia had approached third countries to help resolve the issue, the foreign minister confirmed that such attempts had been made but had not produced results.

“It did not work. Do you think that if there had been an opportunity to resolve the issue through a third country, we would not have done so? We are the most interested in this. We approached third countries: either they refused, or they were told to stay away,” Mirzoyan said.
