On Ruben Vardanyan’s Birthday: Honoring a Visionary Unjustly Imprisoned
Today marks the 57th birthday of Ruben Vardanyan – a visionary, humanitarian, and nation-builder who has dedicated his life to advancing education, social development, and national identity.
For the second year in a row, Ruben is spending his birthday behind bars in Baku – imprisoned without a fair trial, in clear violation of international legal standards. His detention is not just a personal injustice, but a broader warning about the erosion of rule of law and human rights in the region.
Despite his unjust imprisonment, Ruben’s legacy continues. The initiatives he co-founded — from educational institutions and humanitarian efforts to long-term nation-building projects — are still thriving and making a lasting impact on Armenia and the Armenian world.
On this day, we stand in solidarity with Ruben Vardanyan and call once again for his immediate release. We also invite everyone to watch the short film released by the IDeA Foundation, which powerfully reflects his values, vision, and enduring influence.
Let us honor Ruben not just with words, but with action — by defending justice, upholding human dignity, and continuing the work he believed in.
